ROLESVILLE, N.C. — Raleigh's municipal water system officials issued a boil-water order Thursday evening for customers in Rolesville.

A road crew working at the intersection of U.S. Highway 401 and Burlington Mills Road accidentally hit a 12-inch water main shortly before 1 p.m., officials said.

Five customers were without water service as utility crews worked to repair the main, but other water customers in Rolesville might have experienced low water pressure while crews isolated the leak, officials said.

Because of the pressure drop, all Raleigh water customers in Rolesville were advised to boil water used for human consumption, including drinking, cooking, making ice and washing dishes, to kill any bacteria in the system.

Officials said that tests to determine whether the water is safe won't be complete until Friday afternoon.
