Waves, N.C. — The body of a 17-year-old girl who went missing after swimming in the Outer Banks was located Sunday night.
Authorities said the girl and a 16-year-old boy were pulled into the ocean off a Cape Hatteras National Seashore beach in Waves on Oct. 13, when strong rip currents were impacting the area.
The boy was able to return to the beach and was taken to a local hospital.
A beachgoer reported finding the girl’s body about 20 yards north of Avon Pier just before 10 p.m. Sunday.
