Body of missing Raleigh boater found

Posted June 19, 2011

— Crews recovered the body of a Raleigh man who went missing while fishing on Lake Wheeler Saturday morning, police said.

Members of the N.C. Canine Emergency Response team searched the water overnight and found the body of Darryl Raynard Kimble, 49, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said they were still piecing together what caused Kimble's death, but nothing indicates foul play. His body was sent to the state Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Family members said that Kimble was married and had children. He worked for the Town of Cary in the finance department.

On Saturday, officers found Kimble's boat adrift on the lake between Penny and Lake Wheeler roads and a pair of shoes along the lakeshore where he is believed to have gotten in the water.

The Wake County Division of Emergency Management, Wake County Sheriff's Office and the Apex, Fairview, Holly Springs and Raleigh fire departments helped in the search for Kimble.

Lake Wheeler was open as normal Sunday.

My thoughts go out to the Kimble family. But seriously, blaming it on wakeboarding was the only thing you could think of bad guy?

With all due respect to WRAL, the missing boaters shoes (flip flops) were found floating in the water near where the boat was resting on shore. They were picked up by my daughter and her boyfriend and turned over to the authorities. Our condolences go out to the Family in this time of their losses.

A tragic accident! It didnt say if he was wearing a life jacket but so many people think that it foolish and unnecessary.

Do they allow wake boarding boats on Wheeler? They can generate a dangerous wake for surrounding boats and throw someone out of a boat if they don't see the wakes coming.
    I pray for his family.
