Body of missing man found at Lake Benson Park in Garner

Posted April 22, 2015

— The body of James Hipp, whose disappearance prompted a four-day search at Lake Benson Park in Garner, has been found.

Garner police said Wednesday that they believe Hipp, 26, committed suicide.

Officers had been searching the park since before dawn Monday, when they found HIpp’s car at the entrance to the park. Evidence in the car that gave them reason to believe Hipp wanted to harm himself.

Hipp’s body was found by a Wake County sheriff’s deputy who was searching by boat. The body will be sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Hipp lived with his parents on Pamela Drive in Raleigh.

Prayers for his family. Seeing his mother pleading on tv tore me to pieces. May God provide the strength they need to get through this.

So sad. It seems like we are reading more and more of these events these days. Or perhaps such was never publicized as much. I went through a really rough state of depression in the past when I considered taking my own life. It's hard to describe to people so a dark, lonely place of hopelessness; where killing oneself seems like the only way to escape the suffering. I just hung onto my faith. We need to de-stignamtize depression. It's certainly not a choice, not a weakness - it's the same as any other disease..... Prayers to the family and friends.
