Body of missing kayaker pulled from Falls Lake

Posted February 2, 2011

— Search and rescue crews pulled the body of a kayaker from Falls Lake on Wednesday, three days after he disappeared in the water, authorities said.

George Gregory Feeter, 39, was on the lake Sunday, and some people heard him yelling for help that evening, saying he had fallen in the frigid water.

Searchers quickly found Feeter's kayak and some of his belongings about a half-mile from the boat launch in the Barton's Creek area of Fall Lake off Six Forks Road.

Dive teams and boats equipped with sonar probed the lake for three days before finding Feeter's body Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Why would someone be kayaking in frigid water without adequate body protection from falling in?
