Body of missing fisherman found in Cumberland pond

Posted June 3, 2012

— On Sunday, Cumberland County authorities found the body of a man who went missing while fishing on a pond Friday night.

Authorities say Bobby Porter fell out of his boat into an artificial pond off Seaham Drive, outside Fayetteville. Searchers scoured the area for him on Saturday, including the help of cadaver dogs. On Sunday morning, authorities recovered Porter's body and friends believe that his death was accidental.

"He introduced me to my wife," said longtime friend Jeffery Altman. "I've fished with him 25 years and he's never fell out of a boat."

Altman said that Porter loved three things above all - God, family and fishing.

After hearing about Porter's accident, his church family at Lighthouse Harvest Church quickly formed a prayer group.

"I can't believe it, I can't believe this happened," said church member Ana Adams. "He was an amazing guy. He will be missed greatly."

Can someone explain to me what an artificial pond is?

I'm assuming they are meaning one created by digging it out with excavating equipment. Not naturally occurring, in other words man made.

At least he went out doing what he loved to do. That's the way I want to go. Unfortunately for Bobby it appears there was a lot more fishing to get done.

Condolences to his family and friends. So sad to hear a good man lost his life on the water he apparently loved to boat.
