Fayetteville, N.C. — On Sunday, Cumberland County authorities found the body of a man who went missing while fishing on a pond Friday night.
Authorities say Bobby Porter fell out of his boat into an artificial pond off Seaham Drive, outside Fayetteville. Searchers scoured the area for him on Saturday, including the help of cadaver dogs. On Sunday morning, authorities recovered Porter's body and friends believe that his death was accidental.
"He introduced me to my wife," said longtime friend Jeffery Altman. "I've fished with him 25 years and he's never fell out of a boat."
Altman said that Porter loved three things above all - God, family and fishing.
After hearing about Porter's accident, his church family at Lighthouse Harvest Church quickly formed a prayer group.
"I can't believe it, I can't believe this happened," said church member Ana Adams. "He was an amazing guy. He will be missed greatly."
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the death, but have yet to release details into the accident.
Friends say that Porter was a capable swimmer but details on whether or not he was wearing a life vest are unknown.
