SPRING LAKE, N.C. — The body of a 73-year-old Fayetteville man who was reported missing last month has been found, and a man has been charged in his death, Cumberland County sheriff's deputies said Wednesday.

Clemasee Guyton’s body was found in woods along Samuel Drive in Spring Lake on Tuesday.

Samuel Lorenzo Davis, 20, of the 1300 block of Kingstown Court in Spring Lake, was charged with first-degree murder, common law robbery and felony conspiracy in Guyton’s death.

More charges are pending in the ongoing investigation, Cumberland County deputies said.

Guyton's family and friends, along with neighbors who live near where his body was found, were dealing with the news of his death Wednesday.

“It was a shock to us to find out there was a body there,” said Fredricka Sutherland, a Spring Lake alderman who lives nearby.

Guyton was reported missing by family members on April 22 after he didn’t return to his Botany Court home. Investigators on Monday released surveillance photos of two people wanted in connection with Guyton’s disappearance after they were spotted in Columbia, S.C. inside a vehicle the elderly man was known to operate.

Authorities have not said whether the surveillance photos contributed to Davis’ arrest, how Guyton was killed or what led to the discovery of his body.

"What happened to him should not have happened, because if somebody wanted something from him, he would have given it to them," said a family friend who did not want to be identified. “Now that I do know what happened, it is even worse.”

Guyton’s body was discovered about a half-mile from the suspect's residence.

“I used to speak to the young man and he always was very kind,” Sutherland said.
