Body of missing 5-year-old Salem boy found in Willamette River

SALEM, OR — The body of 5-year-old Allen "Chaz" Pearson has been found in the Willamette River, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say at 1:40 p.m. Monday, Pearson's body was found in the river near Wheatland Ferry, about 13 miles down river from where he was last seen.
Pearson was last seen playing with other children near the water's edge at Wallace Marine Park at about 5:30 p.m. Friday right before he went missing, according to the Salem Police Department.
Crews from several agencies searched the area over the weekend.
Deputies say the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office marine patrol found Pearson's body Monday while helping with the search.
The Polk County medical examiner has responded to the scene and the investigation is being treated as a drowning.
The sheriff's office was assisted in the search by Salem Fire, Salem Police Department, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, Benton County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, Benton County Sky SAR (civil air patrol), Benton County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol, Corvallis Mountain Rescue, Oregon Army National Guard, Polk County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol, Polk County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, Marion County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, and American Red Cross.
