Body of Marine discovered at Lejeune

The body of a Marine has been found at Camp Lejeune, officials said Thursday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — The body of a Marine has been found at Camp Lejeune, officials said Thursday.

The body of Pfc. Timothy J. Newcomer, 19, of Winnebago, Ill., was discovered Wednesday afternoon. Officials said the body was found between two main roads north of the Hadnot Point area of the massive 246-square-mile base.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the case. Officials could not offer any details about the cause of death because of the investigation.

Newcomer enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2008 and was an infantry rifleman assigned to Gulf Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.
