EDENTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard and North Carolina officials suspended their search Monday for a man who reportedly fell overboard from a boat in Albemarle Sound near Edenton after pulling a body from the water.

A motorist driving on the N.C. Highway 32 bridge told the Coast Guard late Sunday morning that they saw a person fall overboard from a 39-foot boat about a quarter-mile offshore. Another person found the boat with just a dog aboard.

A Hertford County sonar team located a body Monday afternoon, and a Perquimans County dive team recovered him, officials said.

Coast Guard, North Carolina Marine Patrol and other agencies had searched the area late Sunday and much of Monday.
