Body of boater pulled from Albemarle Sound

Posted November 4, 2013

— The Coast Guard and North Carolina officials suspended their search Monday for a man who reportedly fell overboard from a boat in Albemarle Sound near Edenton after pulling a body from the water.

A motorist driving on the N.C. Highway 32 bridge told the Coast Guard late Sunday morning that they saw a person fall overboard from a 39-foot boat about a quarter-mile offshore. Another person found the boat with just a dog aboard.

A Hertford County sonar team located a body Monday afternoon, and a Perquimans County dive team recovered him, officials said.

Coast Guard, North Carolina Marine Patrol and other agencies had searched the area late Sunday and much of Monday.

A 39 footer by his self? He must have been a better mariner than I. And robably pretty experienced.

"How does someone just fall overboard? Was he intoxicated?" - Obamacare for one and all

Fall trying to untangle an anchor line from a prop, dog tripped him up, had a medical issue like heart attack, siezure, etc. Theres a few more.

Sad that you just throw intoxication out there so ignorantly. There's a lot of weeken warriors that get tanked and act like fools but there are many more responsible captains out there that take it seriously and could fall overboard to no fault of their own. This man was captaining a 39 ft boat. It wasn't his first trip

The boat was about a quarter mile off shore, but the motorist was on the bridge, not the shore. The motorist could have very likely been a quarter mile from shore as well, right beside the boat.

who said it was a fellow that saw the man fall overboard?

Maybe, or was just paying attention. The boat could have been only a few yards from them as they drove the 3 miles across the bridge.
