RALEIGH, N.C. — Friends and family of a 24-year-old mother who was found dead along a Wake County road over the weekend remain stunned by the news.

Authorities said the body of Faith Chere Bevan, 24, of 1002 Buckhorn Road in Garner, was found in a ditch in the 7800 block of Caddy Road at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators said they received a 911 call from a passerby about a woman lying in a ditch.

Loved ones of Bevan say it makes no sense that anyone would want to hurt the young woman. Bevan was a waitress who was raising her 5-year-old daughter and living with her family in Garner.

"I saw they were investigating it as a homicide. That shocked me even more than finding out the news about her because she was the type of person that was liked by everybody," said Christina Yates, a friend of Bevan's. "There was no type of person, no certain age, no certain race that she didn't get along with. She got along with everybody."

Yates went to Garner Magnet High School with Bevan and said they recently took a childcare class together.

She said the biggest loss is to Bevan's daughter, who is now with her father.

"She was a good mom, she loved her to the moon and back," Yates said.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said there were no "obvious" signs of trauma on her body, and that the sheriff's office is working on several promising leads in the case.

Authorities said Bevan’s body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
