RALEIGH, N.C. — A 24-year-old mother who was found dead along a Wake County road over the weekend was described Monday by friends and family as a woman who had a "goofy sense of humor."

Authorities said the body of Faith Chere Bevan, 24, of 1002 Buckhorn Road in Garner, was found in a ditch in the 7800 block of Caddy Road at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities said Bevan’s body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death.

Investigators said they received a 911 call from a passerby about a woman lying in a ditch.

"No vehicle, just the body of a female ... partially clothed," said Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison. "When somebody's lying on the side of the road, how did she get there? That's our concern. What happened? What caused her to get there? Why was she dead?"

Those who knew Bevan said her house is less than 10 miles away from where her body was found.

Family members told WRAL News that Bevan was the mother of a 5-year-old girl, who was now being cared for by her grandparents.

Harrison said there were no "obvious" signs of trauma on her body, and that the sheriff's office is working on several promising leads in the case.

"When was the last time she was seen? Who was she with? If you saw her with somebody …," Harrison said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
