RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County deputies searching a home north of Raleigh on Wednesday evening found a body found inside, the sheriff said.

Investigators have been searching for David Green Jr., of 8617 Ray Road, since early September when a family member reported him missing.

They returned to his home for more clues Wednesday and made a grisly discovery.

"That's when we discovered an odor and did find a body in the house," said Sheriff Donnie Harrison.

He wouldn't say if the body was Green or where the body was in the house.

Authorities said they were treating the case as a homicide investigation.

Neighbors said they haven't seen Green in several weeks, and that recently "No Trespassing" signs appeared on the property.

Green's 17-year-old daughter, who also lives at the home, was arrested in July on burglary charges. She has been in the Wake County jail since Sept. 16 on failure to appear and contempt of court charges.

Deputies have worked with family members and neighbors in the search for David Green, Harrison said.

"We've been contacting witnesses, anybody that we can. We weren't making any headway, so we came back out with (the City-County Bureau of Identification) and the family to take some pictures and see what kind of evidence we could find and so forth, (and) we found a body in the house."

The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill for a positive identification and to determine a cause of death.
