Body Found in Harnett County

Posted May 30, 2007

— Authorities are trying to identify a man whose body was found Wednesday morning by a telephone worker.

An Embarq employee found the body at about 8:30 a.m. in a wooded area off U.S. Highway 401 in the Kipling community north of Lillington, authorities said. The worker was heading to a shed housing some telephone transmission equipment when he made the discovery.

The man might have been homeless and might have died of natural causes, authorities said.

Actually, this worker likely wasn't walking "through the woods". I came by this site at about 10AM this morning coming from Fuquay to Lillington, and the "equipment" was only 30ft or so off the road in a small gravel area that was cleared for this large telephone "box". I knew something was up when I saw the yellow tape and Harnett County CSI SUV there beside the road along with several HCSD cruisers.

I would be mortified if I was out walking and found a body anywhere - how nightmarish!
