Body found in Fayetteville identified as missing woman

Posted April 17, 2013

— Cumberland County authorities identified a woman Wednesday whose body was found Saturday behind the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club on Cumberland Road.

Michelle Lynne Powell, 31, had been missing since March 8 before being found Saturday morning by a passer-by.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner used dental records to confirm Powell's identity, but authorities said no cause of death has been determined.

Detectives said in March that Powell recently suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on the left side of her body.

Powell's family told detectives they were worried because she didn't have medications with her when she went missing.

This is so sad. First, isn't it unusual for someone that young to suffer a stroke? I have a daughter, and I cannot imagine the anguish of having her go missing. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
