Fayetteville, N.C. — A father of six adult children was found dead inside his burned home just outside Fayettevile Saturday night.
Firefighters battling the blaze in the mobile home at 1161 Eden St. discovered the body Carl Frederick Jones, 58, around 10:30 p.m, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
The cause of the fire hasn't been determined, but investigators said they are treating Jones' death as suspicious because the home had no utility services. The state medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Residents said that Jones had lived in the neighborhood for 45 years and was a nice, warm, friendly, and helpful man. He lived alone and used a propane tank for heat, they said.
One neighbor said he heard a loud explosion followed by whistling Saturday night but thought it was a train on nearby tracks.
"I'm so sorry for the family," neighbor Angel Luis said. "I'm praying for the family."
