DUDLEY, N.C. — A Wayne County woman and her new husband have been arrested in the death of her father, whose remains were found Monday in a shallow grave near Dudley, authorities said Wednesday.

Lea Deatrice Monroe reported her father, Walter Lee Jordan, missing on Feb. 27, but investigators said he hadn't been seen since mid-December. Detectives suspected Jordan, 59, was the victim of foul play, and authorities said they finally located a grave behind a home on Boykin Drive that Jordan and Monroe once shared.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh confirmed Wednesday that the remains in the grave belonged to Jordan, but no cause of death was released.

Antuan Keith Smith, whom Monroe married on March 18, was arrested March 24 on charges that he was using Jordan's bank cards to withdraw money from Jordan's accounts, authorities said.

Monroe and Smith are charged with murder in the case, and Lashonna Robinson was charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder. Authorities didn't disclose her relationship to Monroe or Smith or what she is accused of doing.

"I am glad we were able to help establish some type of closure for the victim’s loved ones," Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce said in a statement.
