Posted June 3, 2014

— A man's body was discovered behind an abandoned building on N.C. Highway 56 Tuesday morning, authorities said.

A tree worker discovered the man, located in a dumpster pit, while trimming a tree near a former Burger King at around 9:30 a.m., Butner Public Safety Chief Danny Roberts said. There were no obvious signs of foul play, said Roberts, who added that the man was deceased for at least 24 hours before he was found.

Investigators are working to determine the man's identity and cause of death. He is described as a black male in his 50’s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was discovered wearing a grey long sleeve hooded sweatshirt with "STSU" and "2007" in blue letters, blue jeans, black tennis shoes, a blue shirt and a black "NY" baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the man's identity or his death is asked to contact Detective Sgt. C.S. Massey at (919) 575-6561 ext. 103.
