Blue Cross NC announces prices for ACA plans

— North Carolina's largest health insurer is telling consumers how much it will charge individuals under terms of the Affordable Care Act.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield North Carolina announced Thursday that it will offer 26 plans on the health insurance exchange. Monthly premiums will range from as little as $145 for a 25-year-old subscriber to one of two catastrophic plans, up to as much as $594 for one of six plans for a 60-year-old.

A news release from the provider said catastrophic plans will have higher deductibles and will be available for consumers under age 30 and those who get what is described as "hardship exemptions."

Blue Cross has opened at least a half-dozen offices across the state to educate people about the ACA. It will begin enrollment in October.

"The ACA will make coverage available to many who have never had it and will enhance benefits for most consumers. These are good things, but they come at a cost," said Patrick Getzen, BNBSNC vice president and chief actuary.

"After the impact of subsidies, we expect about two-thirds of our individual customers will see the amount they pay for coverage increase similar to previous years - or they may pay less," Getzen said. "The remaining one-third of our customers will see fairly substantial increases due to the requirements of the ACA."

Adam Searing, health director at the North Carolina Justice Center, praised the plans and said the costs are lower than he anticipated.

"For years, I've been described as an antagonist to Blue Cross, but that's changing," Searing said. "There is no more pre-existing condition exclusion. You can have a whole history of cancer and you are going to pay the same price as somebody who is perfectly healthy."

The out of pocket max saved my friend from bankruptcy for back surgery. As a Grad student, she would be unable to cover the (after insurance) bills except for the new out of pocket max... This is why everyone needs insurance and why the ACA is desperately needed and needs to expand...
This is what medical insurance is for, this is why people pay for insurance, this is why ALL people need to be covered by medical insurance... Wait till you are sick or injured... you will see, I guarantee it...

the conversation is about him lying to us about the cost and keeping the policy you have. He lied
    nachochezz

Except the actual facts show he didn't.

Did he say in 2010 you can keep your policy if you like it. yes or no- nachochezz

    NO.

Here's what he said before a joint session of congress, word for word:

"If you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have"

    And the statement was TRUE.

Any coverage you had WHEN HE MADE THE STATEMENT was coverage you CAN STILL KEEP.

Your problem seems to be you think he ALSO said "And any future coverage you might EVER get in the FUTURE you can ALSO keep FOREVER"

    But he didn't say that.

So you continuing to accuse him of breaking a promise he never made is really, really strange.

Keep in mind, HE did not lie to you about the cost. Your cost is controlled from a percentage standpoint, no more than 9.5% of income. However, the INSURANCE CARRIER is the one who SETS the rates being charged. And in North Carolina, those rates are reviewed and approved by the NC Dept of Insurance.

Not what the conversation is about. need to read up. the conversation is about him lying to us about the cost and keeping the policy you have. He lied

  • notexactly Sep 6, 4:49 p.m.

    Now that didn't make sense.
What I am asking is this. Did he say in 2010 you can keep your policy if you like it. yes or no
Did he also say after 2010 you will not be grandfather in and will lose you policy yes or no?
If he said the first phrase and the second phrase. He did not lie.
If he did not let people know that after 2010 you would not be able to keep your policy then that is a lie. that is simple. Like my last post Junky, not telling the whole truth is a lie just the same. Back to my questions. Can you answer them with all your 100% correct data and one sided mind?
also did he say your insurance will not cost anymore under Obama care? yes or No?

Keep on spinning junkmail5. You'd make a good politician. Well...let me rephrase that, you would excel in politics. But everyone here knows that Obama lied, once again. So keep on spinning.
