My husband has to work either Thanksgiving or Christmas every year.
I volunteer while he is working .
We do "Christmas in July" with the nephews and have agreed with family & friends to only exchange small gifts ( maybe homemade food/photos of our time together the past year/a night out together or a nice meal at our home ) . We spend the majority of our "Christmas budget" on those in need in our community .

Shopping on "Black Friday" is like the "Hunger Games"!!

I have found in the past that a lot of the "deals" that are advertised on Black Friday are cheaper after Black Friday.

If I shop, it is for the online deals. It would have to be a HUGE ticket item for me to even consider fighting the crowds, and even then...since they usually only offer a few at the special price, it is not worth it.

My time is worth something to me and my family too.

Nabaki - I couldn't agree more. I hate that they spoil Thanksgiving. There is no respect for family time because of corporate greed.

I've never gone shopping on Black Friday and probably never will. And definitely NOT on Thanksgiving Day! In my opinion it's absolutely ridiculous the lengths that corporations go to. Thanksgiving is about family. I feel bad for the employees who have to work on that day.

Walgreens also has a bunch of items that are FREE after Register Rewards! - not sure how they will be working it this year. I don't remember hearing about them handing out tickets for big items last year, but I shopped Kohl's BF online last year.

does anyone know if Khols hands out ticket for popular items or first come first serve? I usually just go to target but what my son wants is on sale at Khol's this year so I will brave the crowds ;)

Im with Meredith somewhat. DH usually has to work holidays and since I dont have family out here I have nothing to do thanksgiving night, so Rae and I will venture out, not looking for any "big ticket items" or anything in particular, just love the sights and sounds and if I find a good deal, hey im happy. Before Rae came along, DH and I were there at midnight waiting for the best deals really anything we could get our hands on :)

I always go shopping on Black Friday. I don't go on Thanksgiving Day because we are with family until late. I also don't stand out in line at 2am on Friday or anything like that. I'll venture out between 6am and 7am and hit a few stores before lunch with family. Most of my shopping will be done on Saturday once the crowds ease up a little since I'm never after the big ticket items anyways.
