— Cumberland County authorities said Friday that a black bear was spotted at a Fayetteville campground on Thursday.

Cumberland County Animal Services received a report from a camper at the Lazy Acres Campground near the Fayetteville Regional Airport.

An animal control officer saw the bear in the same area later in the day.

The public should be cautious in the area and report any sightings to Animal Services at 910-321-6852 between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. during the weekdays or call 910-321-1500 during the weekend.

In May, there were reports of a black bear near Hope Mills Middle School. Animal control said it isn't sure if it’s the same bear.

This is news? I've seen black bears wander through my campsite several times in NC state parks & GSMNP. They have at least as much right to be there as we do. In the park campgrounds I'm far more frightened by the all too frequent stupid drunks with guns than the wildlife.

I guess it is odd to spot a bear near a campground or wooded area these days. That just goes to show that we Americans are to domesticated.
