Bic pens FREE at Dollar General!

Smart Shopper: Good Deal

Score some Bic pens for FREE at Dollar General this week with the $1 coupon from the 1/5 SS insert (with Healthy Essentials on the front cover).  The ad indicates that various writing instruments are on sale for $1.00 - $1.50. Use the $1 coupon on the $1 item and .....BAM, it is free! Well, you will still have to pay tax.  Since this coupon will not double at Harris Teeter's Super Doubles sale, this is a good option for free pens.

I also successfully used the Q at DG - Raleigh last night w/no problems.

That is ridiculous that they told you that, cakegurl2010. So sorry you had that experience. Did you speak with the manager? If so, I suggest calling corporate to let them know what happened and that you believe the store needs some additional training on how to accept coupons correctly.

DG will be fully reimbursed for the coupon plus handling so there is no reason they should not have taken it. I have used coupons to make products free at DG many many times with no issues.

bparrish - glad you had no problems redeeming the coupon.

I tried to get the mechanical pencils today and was told that I couldn't use the coupon because it would make the item free :/
I'm going to try a different store tomorrow.

FYI - I just returned from DG to get the pens. The coupon indicated 1 coupon per purchase so only one coupon scanned correctly. The cashier had to manually enter the rest in but she was able to do it. Your DG may require that you ring each one in a separate transaction.

Each 10 pack of the Bic Round Stic pens ended up being 6 cents with tax. These make a great donation for teachers!
