Beware: first-time turkey shooter

I have always passed the Raleigh Jaycee's Turkey Shoot at the N.C. State Fair and wanted to try it.

RALEIGH, N.C. — I have always passed the Raleigh Jaycee's Turkey Shoot at the N.C. State Fair and wanted to try it, so this year I took the plunge. 

If you aren't used to shooting a shotgun, the turkey shoot can be a little intimidating. Basically, you pay a few dollars to get one shot at a target. If you are the closest to your bullseye you win a turkey or T-shirt. 

You have headphones and goggles to protect your eyes, but you will still feel the kickback from the gun. Wow! I lined up my shot and for a first-timer I did a great job of not hitting the target at all! 

If you have never tried it, I highly recommend it. Just go in and have some fun. The workers will help you load the shell and show you how to shoot, so don't worry.
