Our Five Faves

Best places to play hooky in the Triangle

Posted June 23, 2014

Some of the games at Dave and Buster’s Cary.

— We have all wanted to pull a Ferris Bueller and take a day off from work, school, life, etc. Obviously, heading to the beach or mountains are great choices, but we are keeping our selections to just places you could enjoy your day off in the Triangle.

Here are our picks in no particular order:

The Umstead Hotel and Spa (Cary) - Great food, beautiful surroundings and a spa that we could move into if they'd let us, help make this a great place to play hooky during the workweek. To help make it even better, Monday through Thursday spa guests have access to the hotel's outdoor pool and fitness center, in addition to the spa amenities every day (relaxation lounges, locker rooms, steam room, sauna, whirlpool and current pool).

Defy Gravity (Durham and Raleigh) - This trampoline arena offers a great way to work out and have fun. It is also probably one of the last places someone would look for you if you called in sick. Enjoy their 20,000 square-foot park that includes a dodgeball arena, basketball goals and a foam pit. This place gets packed after school lets out so make sure you go early.

Cirque de Vol (Raleigh) - This circus studio offers classes including trapeze, stilt-walking, aerial silks, yoga and hula-hooping. It is the perfect way to run away with the circus for a day.

Dave and Buster's (Cary) - Skee-ball and beer - need we say more?

Durham Bulls game (Durham) - Take in a day game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Great food, craft beer and a beautiful ballpark make this a great place to spend the day.

Where do you want to spend a day off? Don't worry, we won't tell your boss!
