A big congratulations to the loveable Wool E. Bull, who was named Baseball America's "best mascot" in its Best of the Minors this week.

One fan wrote, according to Baseball America's website, that Wool E. "conveys non-stop fun." The big guy runs the bases with kids, zips around the track on his go-kart and is generally a hit with fans. I'm pretty sure my older daughter will always remember the moment when he picked her from the crowd to run the bases with him!

The honor comes just as the Durham Bulls opens its 2016 season with games against the Charlotte Knights starting Thursday. The minor league team has dozens of home games on its schedule, which runs through Sept. 5.

Those home games include play on Mother's Day, Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day, plus a Star Wars night on May 7. Special promotions and events include regular fireworks shows, deals on concessions, camp out nights, kids run the bases and more. Tickets start at $7.99.
