Best Chocolate Shops

A chocolate-covered Rice Krispy Treat heart from Chocolate Smiles in Cary.

— This is the month of love and here are our five fave spots to buy Valentine's Day chocolate!

In no particular order:

Chocolate Smiles (Cary) - This place is a chocolate-lover's dream! Fudge, truffles, chocolate covered fruit and just about anything else sweet can be found here. Special truffle flavors for Valentine's Day include champagne and Hot Shots featuring Fireball whiskey! There are also truffles filled with cognac and Jack Daniels! Cherry Fudge and White Chocolate Valentine's Bark (which contains pretzels and candy corn) are also perfect for the holiday. With stuffed animals and bears on hand, the only way you can go wrong is waiting too long to place an order. The owner tells me that the lines can get pretty long around the holiday so make sure to place your orders early.

Escazu (Raleigh) - The bars are delicious gifts on their own (the Chipotle chili and vanilla!), but you can also get a box of freshly made chocolates.

Videri (Raleigh) - In addition to the delicious bars, Videri has really expanded its confection selection! One of our faves: the Strawberry Anise Ganache!

The Chocolate Boutique (Raleigh, and Morrisville) - Chocolate covered nuts, hand-dipped chocolate covered bacon and more! With locations at Park West Village and Lafayette Village, you can't wrong with a gift from this shop.

Southern Season (Chapel Hill) - Beautiful truffles, locally made chocolate and a great candy selection help make this a great place for Valentine's Day shopping. Wine and fresh flowers are also available in the same store so you can add to your gift.
