Carey, Shatner lead our weekend best bets

RALEIGH, N.C. — Comedy, music and some soccer highlight our picks for this weekend in the Triangle. 

Stand-up comic turned “Price is Right” host Drew Carey will perform at the Carolina Theatre of Durham on Saturday night. Tickets start at $42. The show is for mature audiences only. No one under the age of 16 will be admitted.

Legendary diva Patti LaBelle will perform at the Durham Performing Arts Center Saturday night. Her last show at the DPAC was a sell-out in 2012. Tickets start at $55.

The international phenomenon Shen Yun plays Raleigh Memorial Auditorium on Friday and Saturday. This dazzling show takes guests on a journey through Chinese culture with classical dance, animated backgrounds and a live orchestra. Tickets range from $60 to $150. Audience members should dress in formal attire suitable for a classical opera or ballet performance. Children under 4-years-old will not be admitted to the show.

The North Carolina Symphony is bringing one of the most powerful pieces of music ever written to the stage this weekend. They will perform “Beethoven’s 5th” at Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh, UNC’s Memorial Hall and at the Robert E. Lee Auditorium in Southern Pines. Advance tickets start at $18. The WRAL Soccer Field in north Raleigh will be packed on Saturday for the CASL Play 4Kay Charity Soccer Event. Adult and youth teams will be competing throughout the day. All proceeds go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which provides funding for scientific research and related programs involving women’s cancers.

Head to Apex’s Halle Cultural Arts Center on Saturday night to celebrate some of Bollywood’s musical treasures. The event dubbed “I Love My India” will feature dance and music in tribute to India, its customs and the traditions of Bollywood. Tickets are $10 for adults and students and senior citizens get in for $8.

The entertainment continues on Sunday when William Shatner brings his one man show to Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. "Shatner's World: We Just Live In It" is a 90-minute trip through the actor's life and career.
