Belk previews fall fashion trends

Belk unveiled its Fall fashion trends this week with a virtual tour with Belk's Fashion Director, Arlene Goldstein. This fall is all about looking "seriously chic."

RALEIGH, N.C. — I am not trying to wish summer away, but after attending the Belk Fall 2013 fashion tour earlier last week with Belk Fashion Director Arlene Goldstein, I am more than ready for all the new colors, styles and designs that come with the not-so-wanted cooler weather.
Last January Belk unveiled their spring fashion trends and right on cue they have let us in on what is going to be hot – or cool – this fall. This year your fall wardrobe should be all about being "seriously chic," but don't worry, you don't have to go out and buy a whole new closet. A lot of trends from spring can be worked into the fall looks. 

Belk has broken their fall trends into four style statements- Glam Globetrotter, Just Dandy, Modernist Mindset and Past Perfect.

MM Couture- Floral Dress, $108.00 Moto Jacket, $118.00
"Glam Globetrotter" is all about animal prints and fur.  This look reminds me a lot of the "Passport" style statement from Spring 2013 but it is a little less boho and a little more European gypsy. Here you will see pattern mixing, but it is more subtle than in the spring. The #1 jacket for this season is the moto jacket. I love how you can use it to add a touch of "punk" to your wardrobe without going over the top. Grab one of your lace or floral dresses from spring and pair it with this jacket for a brand new fall look. Army boots are another way to put a new spin on an old look.

This fall you will see a lot of attention on the ankle of shoes. Ankle straps paired with a single soled pump are a must have. If you love prints, camo is also making a comeback in a fashionable way. Be on the look out for touches of camouflage in shoes and handbags. These intricate details are a fun way to add something unique to your outfit.

"Just Dandy" is all about borrowing style from the boys. In this style statement you will see traditional outfits such as military coats that have been tweaked to be more modern. On jackets you will see unexpected pocket placement and details that contribute to the elegance of this look. You will also see more trousers and pant suits in darker colors for the fall. Pair your outfit with a  brown satchel and a pair of fun flats for a chic look that will get everyone's attention. I especially like this look for work but love that you can also wear it for happy hour.

The "Modernist Mindset" is exactly what the name implies: modern prints, modern shapes and modern styles! Large, over-sized jackets are especially in this season. Wear one of your close to the body dresses from spring and pair it with an over sized boxy jacket for a whole new look. Where jackets used to just be something you had to wear to keep you warm, they are now being used to complete an outfit. 

My favorite thing about this style statement is all the vegan leather/pleather! You will see touches of vegan leather on skirts, shirts and even dresses. The best part is getting the look and feel of leather without it being real leather! 

Gold is making a comeback this fall in a big way. It is the most important metal of the season and you will see all types of gold on everything from shoes to jewelry to handbags.

Ankle boots are the biggest shoe of the season and you will see many different variations of these. They will have zippers and buckles and can be worn with everything from a straight legged pants to a sheath dress.

You will feel like you are drifting back in time when you see the outfits from our last style statement, "Past Perfect." "Past Perfect" is a remix of vintage with a modern feel. Here you will see beautiful neutrals as well as warm colors. Collar necklaces are making a comeback and you will see a lot of lace and patterns borrowed from home furnishings. There is a lot of attention to back detail in dresses so you will look as beautiful leaving as you did entering.

You will also see a lot of pant suits in this style statement but with new details such as a tux inspired jacket and unique patterns. I love pant suits because they work as hard as you do. You can get a lot of fashion mileage out of a pant suit. Wear it all together and then break it apart and wear certain pieces with different outfits. 

The single soled pump is also making a comeback and I could not be happier about it. I love a platform toe but there is something so elegant about the single soled shoe. I cannot wait to see all the colors and styles this type of shoe will be available in this fall.
