Before the story airs: Wake County's water woes

Most of us don’t think twice about drinking water from the tap, but that’s not the case for thousands of homeowners in Wake County.

One of those homeowners contacted WRAL Investigates asking for help.

What followed was an avalanche of pictures from homeowners of rusty water, stained sinks, corroding fixtures and taps with running brown water. We started digging into water quality standards and found this dirty water actually passes national guidelines. How can that be?

That’s when we started investigating who’s to blame for supposedly safe water that no one will drink. Finally, we got answers.
