RALEIGH, N.C. — The annual Tour D'Coop will offer visitors a chance to see chicken coops and bee hives this Saturday throughout Raleigh and Cary.

This one-day tour will take you through 26 coops and hives located at private homes. The addresses will be emailed Saturday morning to folks who purchase tickets online. Otherwise, you can get a map when you get your tickets at Urban Ministries or Whole Foods the day-of. Basic info on the coops and hives are {{a href="external_link-9615789""}}available online{{/a}} so you can start planning which ones you want to visit first.

Bees are being highlighted for the first time this year. Eight of the locations on the tour feature bee hives and coops. Two homes have just bees and no chickens.

The tour is designed to educate people about what it takes to keep chickens, hens and bees. There will be opportunities to chat with the homeowners and take photos/interact with the chickens.

For admission, just bring five non-perishable food items or a cash donation to one of four ticket sites:

  • Urban Ministries of Wake County- 1390 Capital Boulevard (site of the Coop Carnival)
  • Whole Foods Raleigh - 3540 Wade Avenue
  • Whole Foods North Raleigh - 8710 Six Forks Road
  • Whole Foods Cary - 102 New Waverly Place
You can also donate online until 2 p.m. Friday.

Another new feature this year is a  bike route that will take you to six coop homes within 20 miles. Tickets for this are $10.

All proceeds benefit Urban Ministries of Raleigh.

The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday rain or shine. The addresses and basic directions will be given the morning of the tour. Participants should bring a GPS or a city map.

Make sure to stop by the Coop Carnival at Urban Ministries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for music, entertainment, music and a mini food truck rodeo.
