Bed bug infestation forces shutdown of Dunn motel

Posted July 29, 2013

— A Comfort Inn motel in Dunn has been shut down after the Harnett County Health Department says numerous complaints have come in over the past year about bed bugs.

A recent inspection found various issues related to the pests in several guest rooms.

The owners of the motel, at 131 Bud Hawkins Road, are working with the health department to resolve the issue, thoroughly clean rooms and put in place a pest control plan before it can reopen.

lol @ signofthetimes. I am sure you were just kidding because what do you do when you really travel for work or a long weekend getaway. All that equipment on a plane would be expensive and you can't just plop down a tent in Paris or Madrid or Sydney. All one has to do when traveling is be vigilant when checking in.

Surely you don't live in so much fear that you don't enjoy what the world has to offer.

I do not stay in Motels, hotels or anywhere that the bed has had multiple occupants over its lifetime! I have a tent and an air mattress that I would use if I had to go anywhere. I bought a camper many years ago and used that to do my overnight trips or vacations because I am sooooooooooo not going to sleep in rooms that others have already slept in.. YUCK. Bedbugs are a very small part of what you could be exposed to in a place like that... scary really. And those beds with the bugs, think of the DNA that has accumulated over the years from all the visitors.... YUCK YUCK

Many people forget that DDT was used to end bed bug infestations years ago. Might be time to bring it back (to professional pest control companies)? JK

How many people have stayed there and took those critters home with them. I'd be mad !!! After the very first complaint, owners should have taken care of the issue.
