— The trial of a Smithfield woman accused of shooting her boyfriend to death entered into its second week Tuesday.

Tiffany Ann Bassett is charged with first-degree murder in the July 18, 2006, death of her boyfriend, Donald "Keith" West, who was found dead in the bedroom of the home they shared.

Prosecutors continued calling witnesses Tuesday, and West's family said they had been told that the trial is expected to last about three weeks.

The trial was supposed to begin in March, but was postponed twice because of administrative issues.

If convicted, Bassett could face a life sentence.

West worked as a Smithfield police officer for several years before leaving the force in 2001 to start a private police security operation, West-Tek Inc.

Unfortunately, Pebbles, that won't happen. She plead guilty today to 2nd degree murder and will spend between 221 and 275 months in prison. God Bless everyone who wished the family well with the trial. To Keith's family: WE LOVE YOU GUYS!
