CARY, N.C. — Enormous outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops plans to open a 105,000-square foot store in Cary within the next year, the company announced Thursday.

The store would be located on Harrison Avenue just off Interstate 40 and would be the second North Carolina location for the company. There is another store in Concord, just outside Charlotte.

Bass Pro Shops cater primarily to hunters and fishermen, and the Triangle is home to the nation's sixth largest community of anglers, the company noted.

Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht cited the retailer's reputation for environmental stewardship, saying, "As one of North America's renowned outdoor retailers, they have a strong reputation for quality products and services that will serve Cary's active and fit community well. Their leadership in environmental stewardship will be a great fit with Cary's sustainability initiatives."

The Cary store will offer everything from hiking clothes and fishing boats to bird feeders and camping equipment. It is expected to open in late 2013 or early 2014.
