The suspect in a Monday bank robbery led police on a three-county chase Tuesday afternoon that ended outside the Merck facility in Durham County, according to authorities.

Stephen Hicks, 34, is suspected of robbing a Burlington bank on Monday. Officials said he was in a silver Audi that was stolen in the Raleigh area.

The Merck facility was briefly on lockdown Tuesday afternoon as troopers chased Hicks into the parking lot, according to officials.

Authorities said Hicks jumped out of the car and tried to run once he realized he was cornered.

Hicks was arrested and taken to the Granville County jail where he is being held under a $10 million bond.

He faces 23 charges, including robbery with a dangerous weapon, resisting an officer, and fleeing and eluding arrest.

Officials said Hicks' first court appearance is scheduled for July 29.
