CARY, N.C. — A bank robber told staff that he had a bomb and demanded money on Thursday afternoon, police said.

A man approached a teller at the First Citizens Bank, 1825 Kildaire Farm Road, around 4 p.m. He held a plastic bag and a small device, which he claimed was a bomb.

The teller gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, and the robber fled on foot, investigators said.

Police described the robber as a white man in his 50s, about 6 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds. He has a goatee. He wore a white painter's hat, mirrored sunglasses, a surgical mask and dirty, construction-type clothing.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIME. Crime Stoppers pays rewards of up to $2,500 for information leading to arrests or indictments for certain crimes, and callers never have to identify themselves.
