Ballots finalized across Triangle as candidate filing period comes to close
The candidate filing period for 2015 municipal elections closed on Friday afternoon, finalizing the names that voters will choose from in elections coming in both October and November.

Voters in Raleigh and Cary will head to the polls in Raleigh and Cary on Oct. 6, and other area towns will open polls on Nov. 3.
In Raleigh, incumbent Mayor Nancy McFarlane will face off against Robert Weltzin, who also ran for the office in 2013. McFarlane, who succeeded Charles Meeker, was first elected in 2011.
In Cary, the mayor's post and three council seats will be up for grabs. Only one person, incumbent Harold Weinbrecht Jr., is running for mayor in Cary.
Durham Mayor Bill Bell, who is seeking his eighth two-year term, will face challenges from John Henry Everett, Tammy Lightfoot and James Lamar Lyons.
Two candidates will challenge Fayetteville Mayor Nat Robertson, who is seeking his second term. Valencia Applewhite and Edward Donovan filed on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Council seats are on the ballot for almost every municipality from Apex to Zebulon and throughout Cumberland County, and four seats on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education also are up for grabs.
