Law on stopped school buses

I know it's the middle of summer vacation for most kids, but some Wake County year-round students are headed back to school on Tuesday for another school year.

Rising kindergartners through rising seniors will be hopping on school buses to head to year-round schools across the county. We've had way too many accidents that involve serious injuries and even death of young students at school bus stops in the last year or more.

So let's all take this chance to do a couple of things. Make a pledge to be more aware as we drive over the next year. Some kids head out to the bus stop so early it's dark during some parts of the year. And let's all review the N.C. laws on school bus stops. The N.C. Department of Public Instruction has a handy website with very easy to understand rules.

Be safe!
