— A baby deer was reunited with its mother Monday after being caught in a storm drain in north Raleigh.

The fawn appeared healthy as firefighters, neighbors and animal control rallied to pull it to safety. After running in circles, they finally bagged the baby deer.

For onlooker Amanda Bokesch and her husband, it was the understanding of the mother-child bond. "I have a four week old and when I saw the mom I was like this deer has got to get its baby back," she said.

For 7-year-old Chase Brautman, the rescue may have helped him find his life's calling. "A fireman, a police officer or animal control," he said.

Once animal control released the fawn, it took off into the woods. The deer did not suffer any injuries.

was runnig the other night when a deer bounced out of the woods behind me, twisting my knee to look, it sounded like 10 women in high heels were after me!! their hoofs clacking wildly on the asphalt then turning to run after it almost ran into me.

Anyone know what neighborhood this was in? I saw animal control and a bunch of onlookers at the traffic circle off Dunn Rd. in Bedford yesterday evening - I'm thinking that is what was going on...

Love the little boy's comment. See the effect that good role models can have on a child?

I hope the fawn was released near where the doe was last seen so they could "find" each other.
