Autopsy: Stab wound to heart killed Wake Forest man

Raleigh, N.C. — Medical personnel stopped trying to resuscitate a Wake Forest man who was brought into the WakeMed emergency room in March after they could see that a stab wound had penetrated his heart, according to an autopsy released Thursday.
Dorian Kwame Cunningham, 23, died of a single stab that passed “completely through the left ventricle of his heart,” the state medical examiner said. Toxicology reports also showed ethanol in Cunningham’s bloodstream, which may have indirectly contributed to his death, the report stated.
Cunningham’s girlfriend, Krystal Terin Delgado, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with his death.
Police were called to the apartment they shared at 876 N. Main St. on March 7 after a 911 caller told authorities that Cunningham’s girlfriend said he tripped over a box and fell onto a knife that was sticking out of it. Investigators initially ruled the death accidental.
Police responded to the couple’s apartment 12 times in the last year for domestic incidents, and neighbors said they heard arguing at the home the night before Cunningham’s death.
