DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man who was stabbed to death in August had his penis severed after his death, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday.

Ron Fetherson, 53, was found stabbed to death inside his apartment at 1207 Truman St. on Aug. 30.

No one has been charged in the case, and police declined to provide any details in the investigation.

Fetherson was stabbed five times, including twice in the neck and once each in the abdomen, right thigh and groin, according to the autopsy report. One of the wounds to the neck severed an artery, causing him to bleed to death, the report states.

He also suffered cuts on his hands and arms, as well as blunt force injuries to his face and head, according to the report.

After the man was dead, his assailant cut off his penis, the report states. Durham Police Department investigators recovered the detached penis from the crime scene and turned it over to the State Medical Examiner's Office, the report states.

Part of Fetherson's ear lobe also was cut off, it it's unclear if that happened while he was being beaten and stabbed or after he died, according to the autopsy.

Neighbors described Fetherson as a friendly guy who was a veteran and who loved his dog. They said they are anxious for an arrest in the case.
