— A Durham man who was stabbed to death in August had his penis severed after his death, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday.

Ron Fetherson, 53, was found stabbed to death inside his apartment at 1207 Truman St. on Aug. 30.

No one has been charged in the case, and police declined to provide any details in the investigation.

Fetherson was stabbed five times, including twice in the neck and once each in the abdomen, right thigh and groin, according to the autopsy report. One of the wounds to the neck severed an artery, causing him to bleed to death, the report states.

He also suffered cuts on his hands and arms, as well as blunt force injuries to his face and head, according to the report.

After the man was dead, his assailant cut off his penis, the report states. Durham Police Department investigators recovered the detached penis from the crime scene and turned it over to the State Medical Examiner's Office, the report states.

Part of Fetherson's ear lobe also was cut off, it it's unclear if that happened while he was being beaten and stabbed or after he died, according to the autopsy.

Neighbors described Fetherson as a friendly guy who was a veteran and who loved his dog. They said they are anxious for an arrest in the case.

I wonder why it took so long to come out with that information.....they make it sound like it was just discovered.

all you people drive me nuts saying they shouldnt have made this story public. you saw the title so why would you read it if it makes you uncomfortable? I just hope it happened to the guy after he died, not before.

I understand where most of you are coming from about this story being published. But you would be surprised of how someone may have bragged about doing this to someone else. The other person may have not believed them then. BUT may believe it now and call crime stoppers. Just a hunch !

"A Durham man...had his penis severed after his death"

I "had" my car washed. That is, I asked someone to wash my car, and then they washed it upon my request. This man did not "have" his penis severed. The very premise of the story is the fact that his penis was severed after he died, so how did he "have" his penis severed? Are journalists required to score well in English classes anymore? I sometimes wonder.

How does this qualify as a news story? This was an unnecessary article.

Did we really need to know that?

Why choose to air this information here, now...then there are other days when 'we', the public, are not allowed to post a comment to a story (one that is deemed, racial). Makes you wonder.
