— A man who died last month after being run over on Capital Boulevard suffered from mental problems and had amphetamines in his system, according to an autopsy report released Monday.

Richard Christopher Maher, 41, of Knightdale, was found dead on Capital Boulevard near Interstate 440 in the early hours of Nov. 6. Police determined that he had been lying in the roadway when he was hit.

Maher died of multiple blunt-force injuries to his head and body, but a medical examiner said he had no injuries that indicated he had been hit by a vehicle while standing and later run over by a second vehicle.

Amphetamines were found in Maher's blood, which the medical examiner said "would certainly be contributory in the circumstances" of his death.

Maher had been dropped off nearby shortly before he was hit and killed, according to the autopsy. He had mental problems and reportedly hadn't slept for several days, the autopsy report states.

godness, people call 911 all the time when they are on drugs. Trust me, if they think they have overdosed they have no problem calling an ambulance.

No surprise here. Drugs rule certain people.

This man could not call 911 for help earlier in the day because drug use is criminalized. Just sayin.

Actually the article does say he died as a result of being run over by the car. It is stating that he was not in a standing position when he was killed, meaning he was not hit by another car who left the scene and then run over by a second car. It sounds like the drugs and lack of sleep caused him to fallout in the road for some reason, then he was killed when he was run over.

I wish thIS story was more clear. I think they're trying to say he may have overdosed since they're saying that his death was not the result of being hit by cars. SMH

Why do people even try these drugs to begin with? What a waste.
