Autopsy: Lifeguard drowned after epileptic seizure

Posted September 9

— An autopsy shows a 21-year-old lifeguard found dead in a YMCA pool had an epileptic seizure while standing at its edge, causing her to fall in the water and drown.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Yesenia Jimenez Linares was found dead in the pool April 6, several hours after she clocked in at the Lincoln County YMCA. According to recently released autopsy results, she was wearing "street clothes," suggesting she fell into the pool that's no deeper than 5 feet.

Co-workers performed CPR. Linares was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Medical records indicated she'd had seizures since childhood and took medication for them.

She'd worked at the YMCA since 2014.
