APEX, N.C. — An autopsy report released Friday shows that an Apex woman found shot in her driveway last month died of a single, close-range gunshot to the chest.

A neighbor walking his dog on July 22 found Paula Jean Anderson, 67, outside her home at 1209 Boxwood Lane. She later died at WakeMed.

Police recovered a handgun from the driveway. The medical examiner ruled that Anderson's death was the result of a self-inflicted wound.

Anderson was survived by her husband, Thomas Anderson, 91, and a son in Raleigh, police said.
