Authorities shut down I-40 in Clayton

Posted March 15, 2013

— A portion of Interstate 40 near Clayton was shut down overnight Thursday while authorities helped a man who had climbed onto a bridge wall.

The man straddled the wall of the Highway 42 bridge around midnight and refused to move. The State Highway Patrol immediately shut down that section of the interstate.

It took a Johnston County sheriff's negotiator about an hour to talk the man off the wall. The unidentified man was taken into custody.

i like how the headline reads "in clayton" but the story says "near clayton"

the area is actually called cleveland, and has a garner zip code, but i wouldn't expect wral to "know" that.
