Authorities shut down fraudulent Fayetteville clinic

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Fayetteville Police Department said Wednesday that they have shut down RF Medical Clinic, at 705 Cumberland St., following an investigation that began in November after a deputy was tipped to bogus prescriptions coming from the clinic.

Investigators said Wright Gillies, of the 6400 block of Berwick Drive in Fayetteville, was treating children and adults, giving flu shots and dispensing prescriptions without a medical license. Investigators said he used a stolen federal registration number to dispense the drugs without the knowledge of the registered doctor.

Investigators have obtained warrants charging Gillies with practicing medicine without a license, identity theft of a physician, unauthorized use of a Drug Enforcement Agency registration number trafficking and distribution of controlled substances.

A man who answered the door at Gillies' home said he did not want to talk on the advice of an attorney.

Authorities said the investigation is continuing, and more charges against Gillies and others are expected.
