Authorities seek clues in Edgecombe hit-and-run involving lawnmower

Posted March 23, 2013

— Highway Patrol officials are seeking the public's help to locate a hit-and-run suspect who they say struck a man who was driving a lawnmower on N.C. Highway 124 West Friday evening in Edgecombe County.

Lewis Reeves, 53, of Macclesfield, was driving on the highway about 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle hit him from behind, authorities said.

Reeves was thrown from the lawnmower and later transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was in good condition Saturday evening.

Authorities said it was unclear how fast the vehicle was going at the time of the crash, but estimated Reeves was traveling about 5 mph.

Anyone with information should call the N.C. Highway Patrol at 919-733-7952.
