Authorities search Franklin County for kidnapping suspect

Posted March 19, 2012

— Authorities were searching Franklin County on Monday for a man who they believe kidnapped a Craven County woman.

Craven County authorities said they received a 911 call at about 4:45 a.m. from a woman who said someone was breaking into her home. Dispatchers lost contact with the woman, identified as Katherine Bolton, 28, and deputies couldn't find her when they arrived at the house.

Investigators determined that Bolton had been kidnapped, and they identified Ryan Brown, 35, as a suspect in the case.

Franklin County authorities found Bolton at Brown's home, but they said Brown fled out the back door. Deputies were searching a rural area off N.C. Highway 58 for him.

@csmith8116 I am sure you could have done a better job! Where were you yesterday & last night when the LEOs were walking/riding ATVs through the woods risking their life to find this man? On a positive note, I would like to commend Franklin County Sheriff's Dept on their hard work. This search was taking place in the woods behind my house and they were very informative to the community. They made me and my family feel as safe as possible during a time like this. Lastly, my thoughts and prayers go out to this young lady who endured things no one should ever have to endure.

The old back door escape! Come on LEOs. That is the oldest escape route in the book. Even your cop shows on TV cover the back door when approaching a residence. I do appreciate the guys / gals laying their life on the line each shift, but this is the basics taught in "catch a criminal 101"!
