Authorities search for vehicle in fatal Lumberton hit-and-run
The state Highway Patrol was searching Tuesday for a Ford pickup or SUV believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Lumberton last Friday.
Posted — UpdatedMona Kay Locklear, 48, was walking along Regan Church Road at about 11:20 p.m. when she was struck and killed, authorities said.
The vehicle that hit Locklear had run off the right side of the road, and the driver over-corrected and ran off the left side of the road, where she was walking, authorities said.
Authorities said they found pieces of the vehicle at the scene, leading them to believe it was a burgundy or two-tone Ford F150 pickup or Ford Explorer or Expedition SUV.
Also, a driver on his way home late Friday told state troopers that he passed a "red Ford truck" traveling at a high rate of speed along Regan Church Road. The driver, who came upon Locklear's body a couple of miles down the road, said it appeared the vehicle had been in an accident.
